Our Story
About Us
All credit unions began serving one common group. Over the decades, some credit unions all over the nation have joined together to serve their members and others better. In 2001, two healthy credit unions merged to serve their members better. Hambuco Federal Credit Union was founded by Hamilton City and Butler County teachers in 1934. Hambuco also served employees of Mercy Hospital, the City of Fairfield, Butler County, and others. Mutual Benefit Credit Union was founded in 1936 by Cincinnati Gas and Electric employees. CG&E later became known as Cinergy and then Duke Energy. The two wanted a new name representing their bright future while linking to the founding principles of both credit unions.
Credit Unions follow the golden rule of "treat others as you want to be treated." Regardless of the name, the golden rule applies every day. The Aur in the AurGroup name is the periodic table symbol for gold. Using the Aur is a nod to natural and valuable resources (energy) and our teachers (we all remember learning the periodic table). The pronunciation is "our". Thus, Aur Group – means serving our friends, families, and neighbors. The "person" in the AurGroup logo represents an embrace or gathering of our members and community.
AurGroup is more than a financial institution; we are an organization that practices the Credit Union philosophy of "people helping people" every day. We tailor our products and services to meet each individual's needs. Over the years, AurGroup has grown to $200 million in assets and serves approximately 16,000 members. We do banking differently, and that is our promise.
Our financial institution is owned and operated locally by people in your communities, so we are people you can trust and friends whose advice, high service standards, and products are geared toward building long-lasting relationships. We stand out as a pillar because our words are followed by action. We are involved in our communities by volunteering at various places serving people. We present to our students teaching banking basics in Hamilton, Fairfield, and Butler Tech High Schools. This includes working directly with students on budgeting, credit building, and responsible banking. We host an ATM at each of these schools as well. We also know that the habit of saving starts early, so we partner with elementary schools.
It is an honor to impact people's lives by helping them reach financial freedom and educate and guide one member and family at a time.
This is why we are a relationship you can bank on.
